Mark Wang escaped the jaws of death from “Yinchuan 7.23 Air Crash” that happened in Yinchuan city, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of China on July 23, 1993.
Aged 12, he suffered great pain from serious injuries and almost lost his mobility. After a 5-year rehabilitation training and determined academic self-study in China Rehabilitation Research Center, he was admitted to United World Colleges (hereinafter referred to as UWC) Red Cross Nordic in 1998 and became the first international student from Mainland China. In 1999, Mark Wang won two gold medals in the 36th World Skiing Championships for Disabled Athletes.
Mark Wang gradually became a household name in Norway because of his moving deeds; he is also affectionately called a Chinese Hero by the Norwegian people.
A chapter of Mark Wang’s autobiographical novel, “Reborn from the Fire, Fly to the Sky”(撑起生命的蓝天》,please note that the English translation version of the composition has not been published.)is selected and adapted as part of the Chinese textbook for public secondary schools in Shanghai Education Edition. His story was also adapted in TV dramas and melodramas, which inspired more and more people.
Wang has been carving out his career in Scandinavia and China. His prodigious entrepreneurial flair shapes himself as a pioneer on expanding UWC brand, and his start-ups experiences lay the foundation for his success.
Wang had been working on building and starting up a UWC in Mainland China since he graduated from UWC Red Cross Nordic in 2000. Fifteen years’ persistent efforts made his dream come true. United World Colleges Changshu China, the first UWC in Mainland China was established in 2015. In recent years, UWC Changshu China has achieved gratifying results on educational projects. Various teaching innovations have been carried out orderly ad have attracted much attention form the education industry. In order to further expand the UWC brand influence in the society and help more Chinese students experience high-quality international education, China World Academy (hereinafter referred to as CWA) took advantage of the situation and “came to life” with this trend on 23 August 2019.
