Four years ago, I realized a dream of establishing a UWC in China after fifteen years of efforts. In the past four years, UWC Changshu China has adhered to its mission, educational philosophy, and principles that all UWCs have always insist on. With the experience accumulated, today, I start another dream, that is to deliver the impact of UWC education and invite more Chinese students to access to high-quality international education. Under the support of the Municipal Government of Changshu, CWA is established. 

Tsinghua University High School also gives us strong support. I believe that an excellent international education in China has to deeply root in Chinese culture. CWA insists on the educational philosophy and principles from UWC and forms its unique curriculum system and teaching characteristics for Chinese students by learning from excellent Chinese high schools. It is my dream to establish CWA, and I hope that each student who studies at CWA has his/her vision and makes unremitting efforts toward it. To do so, we strive to track the essence of education, to support students discover themselves, identify themselves, and realize themselves. We will enable our students to go from China to the world, and ultimately achieve our collective dreams of building a better world and a better future.

Finding solutions to global challenges 

The China World Academy (CWA) was envisioned to develop future leaders seeking to find solutions to global challenges. We face challenges around the world in many areas, such as the environment, healthcare, and education. Addressing these challenges will require us to bring together deep understanding of these complex issues across disciplines, technical and business innovation, as well as entrepreneurship and passion. 

Taking clean energy as an example, one key component to its greater usage is low-cost reliable energy storage to bring down total cost and deliver energy on demand. Tesla’s line of home and industrial battery packs is a good example of innovative technology combined with entrepreneurship that leads to solutions for major global challenges, in this case the substitution of fossil-fuel based energy by clean energy. 

At CWA, we welcome students who have the curiosity, drive, and potential for finding solutions to these issues to join us. We will provide CWA students with an exceptional education, based on the IB DP curriculum, with focus on science andtechnology, exposure to innovative ideas, and entrepreneurial spirit. We want our students to have a sense of idealism and purpose, as well as ability to operate in the real world to deliver impact. 

A central theme of education at CWA will be the search for topics our students would engage passionately. In parallel to classroom instructions, we will bring experts on various global issues and their potential solutions to provide broad exposure to our students. 

We hope the combination of subject learning, topical exposure, and individual research would lead to our students to identify with key issues and develop a passion and some expertise in them. Through these, they will not only learn a great deal and prepare for college education, but find direction for future pursuits. We hope CWA students will deliver impact on solving global issues they identify with over their lifetime.
